Yet more doodles! Today was a good day for doodles, it seems.
Been looking at Chirart ‘s awesomely fantabulous blog today and took a bit of advice from their work: Loosen the fuck up.
Felt pretty good! It was advice that I think my work is in sore need of.
Anyway, these are a few Overworld noodlings. The ones with asterisk’s next to them I can’t take credit for the designs, however, as they’re ref’d directly from Chirart. I really do need to do more spot blacks like the one at the bottom though, I definitely think that learning how and where to put them into my work will give it that next push forward.
Bleh. I originally intended to get far more done with this character today but things kept getting in the way, as is their wont.
Anyway, this is a couple of doodles of Cass, the protagonist of Overworld, and some scrappy development of Roan, one of the other main characters. Cass is the captain of the ship Jean works on. Roan is a girl who works on her dad’s Beacon Herding ship. Basically, since even the islands that exist in a doldrum (an area with little air movement) move around a certain area and are often obscured by clouds or nightfall, beacon herders take specially designed torches that can stay in one position and set up perimeters around islands so that sailors can navigate to them when conditions are less than ideal. She longs for freedom away from her responsibilities but her father’s fanatical sense of duty won’t allow it. She’s also likely to have some degree of magical power in the story, but I’m still ironing out the details of the magic system so that will have to wait :)
Sorry I’ve been quiet! I was in London over the weekend being far too irresponsible for my own good.
Not much art happened whilst I was away but here, have a very loose sketch for part of a series that I’ve been working on over a couple of years of illustrating my girlfriend’s various DnD characters. Not liking her outfit / pose so I’m gonna rework it.
Oh, and below is the original sketch I came up with for her. It didn’t fly, which is a shame. I thought it had potential!
I don’t feel great about these sketches, but I haven’t had chance to draw much of anything over the past 3-4 days so I thought I’d share them.
Some of these are referenced from drawings by Yuko Oto, the artist of Johnny Wander. Amazing art and amazing webcomic. Follow both!
Sketches, some referenced from other drawings, some not.
e1n:
I’m setting a goal of 100 digital doodles, 100 post-its, on top of daily sketches at eecafe. No exact deadline, but as fast as possible.
Why? Because the more you draw the better you get. Also consistency helps your creative juice flowing. Now who wants to join?
I wish my sketches were this clean!
