The above question was asked a few months ago, and I used it for a long blog post on my webcomic Nothing Can Possibly Go Wrong’s website. Here’s a quote to get you started:
“So here’s an awful truth: if you pursue ANYTHING, be it comics, writing, movie-making, acting, piracy or clog dancing to a professional level, if you seek to make this one thing your life’s work, you will meet people along the way who will discourage you from making a thing you love into a thing you do well and a thing you (possibly) do for money. I’m not talking about Random Internet Idiots who like to hide behind anonymity and snipe at you that your comics suck, I’m talking about respected industry professionals, people whose opinions are worth your time, telling you that your work suuuuuuuuuuucks and you should probably reconsider your quest to become a professional artist.”

This was something that I needed to read today
Finally finished!
This is my entry for the Vintage Books Graphic Short Story competition. Cutting it a bit close to the deadline, but I’m happy it’s done! The brief was pretty open, speculating that it only need be 4 pages.
I almost swore off this after I thumbnailed it thinking it was dumb, but I’m pretty happy I decided to push on with it, I think it turned out well! I had a lot of trouble with the pacing, and I still don’t think I pulled it off quite right, but it’s as good as it’s going to get and I’m okay with that.
Some credit goes to Nicholas Kole for the oodles of inspiration his work always gives me. I think it’s partly his fault that half of the stories I draw seem to take place in a forest :PAnyway, this is Fallen Star A.K.A. The Story In Which Everything Glows Inexplicably. I hope you like! Rebloobing myself now that the debates are over.
Stupid posting time was stupid.
Fallen Star page 3!
The best laid plans of mice, men and little star-wielding girls…
This is what I’ve been working on!
There’s a graphic short story competition going on here (might be UK only, I dunno?). The requirements are pretty much just that it be 4 pages long. Mine’s about a girl who finds a fallen star and tries to get it back up into the sky.
Anyway, this is the first page. I swear, with every new piece I colour I try a new approach to colouring. This one isn’t perfect, but it’s the one I’ve felt most comfortable with so far.
Hopefully I should have the rest of the story up soon! :D
Let’s get some colour up in dis, yo
